People who help with each other’s shopping and are good company make good neighbours - according to residents.
They were giving their views as at an event which marked the launch of the Age Better in Sheffield Neighbourhood toolkit - a box filled with advice on what to do if you - or a loved one - feels lonely.
The launch of the kit comes as representatives from the charity pledged their support for our Know Your Neighbour campaign. Hannah Hunt, of the Age Better charity, said: “We’ve backed the Know Your Neighbour campaign because we know the importance of being a good neighbour, and how it can really help someone that feels lonely or isolated.
“We’ve co-designed neighbourhood toolkits with communities in Sheffield, and we’ve learned that lots of people would like to know their neighbours better because it really helps us to feel connected with our community.
“We hope that the Know Your Neighbour Campaign, alongside the work we do at Age Better in Sheffield and lots of other fantastic organisations in Sheffield, will make everyone feel proud to live in our super steel city.”
The toolkit includes a what’s on guide for the ward, featuring local activities for people to get involved with, as well as a guide on how to be a good neighbour and fun tasks to complete.
The event, held in the Terminus Café in Lowedges last week, saw residents of all ages from the Beauchief and Lowedges ward come together to discuss what makes a good neighbour, socialise and make new friends.
