This course helps attendees gain an awareness of autism, including the history of autism and various autistic spectrum disorders. The course emphasis is on sensory perception so delegates can try to understand what it feels like to have autism. Delegates will also learn the skills needed to deliver person-centred care and support, how to adapt communication and the environment and how to better understand the behaviours of those with autism.

If you support people with dementia, such as a friend or family member or are new to care work, then this course will give you a basic understanding of dementia and person-centred care. Group activities are popular on this course and emphasise just how a person with dementia may feel when trying to communicate. Solutions to common issues are then discussed between the tutor and other health care workers. You don’t need any previous qualifications or experience in order to benefit from this course – just a passion for people and a desire to make a positive difference to the lives of the individuals you support.

This practical course provides learners with the knowledge and understanding of safe moving and handling practices to prevent injury to themselves and the individual being moved within a care setting. It provides the knowledge of specific legal requirements in line with up to date health and safety policies and safe systems of work procedures. The practical element allows attendees to learn how to move people safely and to understand the types of equipment used. This course is aimed at all carers who need to lift or handle someone.

This course provides an awareness of the current legislation requirements and good practice relating to administering medication, or supporting others to administer medication, in a care setting. It will provide attendees with the skills required by care workers* in line with CQC requirements to handle, prepare and administer medications safely and the knowledge of the management of medication, the care worker’s roles and responsibilities and what to do should an error occur.
